Matter of Time

Why is it, that as soon as you set a goal life starts to interfere? It seems like one has more time to do those things that 'need' to be done, rather than those things one wishes to be done. A prime example: quilting. I know, shocking.

Today I must admit though, I received my first package of fabric in the mail. Ever. Excited may not be the exact word that I would use, however I was very pleased. It is the backing and binding of my current quilt. You see, I have this odd preference that the backing be of the same fabric in which will be displayed on the front of the quilt. Odd, I know .... however I am sure we all have our little oddities.

My goal for the next couple of days is to carve out some time to do some quilting. How else will I ever meet my goal?

Crazy Eight - Quilt One

Well I must admit that today hasn't been the most productive day. As I continued to take stock of what I have in my fabric stash and purchases yesterday, I believe I am in a very good position to assemble 6-7 quilts at this time. Which in my humble opinion puts me in the race to complete my goal by the end of the year. Who knew.

The fun and fabulous Crazy Eight material [picture of jelly roll to right] has begun to be pieced and cut, pieced and cut - this is what quilting is all about, isn't it? This material will flourish as I use the pattern "Blue Lagoon" by Jelly Roll Quilts (by Pam & Nicky Lintott). This book is full of great patterns.

Tonight, I continue with some pressing and cutting.

Gathering

I started today off by using mymaps in google to locate and pinpoint the stores in Ontario which I have visited in the years past. The link is not only a reminder to myself of where I visit, browse and get renewed inspiration; it is also an encouragement to seek out new stores throughout the province.

Pete and I then decided to jump in the car, grab breakfast and do a short road trip to explore two new quilt stores: Patchwork Porch and the Quilting Bee. Through some blowing snow and very cool temperatures, we ended our day at Gone to Pieces, one of my favourite stores.

Without fail we came home with bags of fabric and a couple of new patterns in hand. Old habits are hard to break ... however, the exciting part is that we got some great deals which incredibly enough compliment the goal that I have set out this year.

An enjoyable day with my patient and ever supportive husband. To him I say 'thank you'.

Start Here

After watching the movie Julie and Julia I was inspired. The last couple of weeks I have wanted to start quilting more. It sounds simple. But not necessarily. For some, carving out time to do something we enjoy isn't always easy. Quilting is something I enjoy. The search for brillant fabrics and matching threads. Cutting, pieceing, and seeing the end result. Rewarding. Nine out of ten times, I then give the quilts away for gifts or raffles.

I've decided to start a blog and set a quilt target for the year of 2010. So I start here. Whether it is for a raffle, gifts or to place on the couch in the tv room my quest is to make 12 different quilts this year.

To my fabric stash I go ....
